Ways to Catch Hepatitis C
In the U.S., approximately 4 million people are infected with Hepatitis C.
2 out of 3 people with Hep C are undiagnosed.
Take a moment to review the table below. If you think you have even a single
risk factor—it’s not important which risk factor—just ask to be tested by your
healthcare professional.
Risk factors
- Sharing of needles—even once
- Snorting drugs (due to infected blood on shared
straw or bill) - Blood transfusion (before 1992)
and blood products (before 1987) - Kidney dialysis
- Heathcare/public safety workers and members of
the military exposed to blood
- Child born to infected mother
- Unprotected sex, especially with multiple partners
- History of sexually transmitted disease
- Tatttoos or body piercings (due to contaminated equipment)
- Shared razor or toothbrush
- Abnormal liver test for unclear reasons
